Postdoctoral fellowship | Until December 9th, 2022

The Maison des sciences de l’homme Foundation (FMSH) and the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA) in Nairobi offer post-doctoral students or young researchers residing in France mobility assistance to carry out a research stay of 2 months in East Africa and in the Great Lakes region: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Eastern Congo (the Kivus).
This call is part of the Atlas short-term postdoctoral mobility programme offered by the FMSH and its partners.
Financial terms
Financial aid of 1,400€ per month (paid at the beginning of each month of stay) is awarded to the winners. It is intended to cover transport and accommodation costs.
Eligibility criteria
Nationality/residence : Be a national of a European Union country and reside in France
Diploma/status: Being a post-doctoral student in SHS and having defended his thesis from 2017. Being associated with a research center / laboratory in France.
Discipline: Be engaged in research in the humanities and social sciences and work on at least one or more East African countries. Particular attention will be paid to projects falling within the major themes addressed by IFRA: Political Dynamics / Social and Economic Transformations / Natural and Cultural Heritage, without being exclusive.
Language: Fluency in English.
Applications submissions
The application file consists of a form and a scientific file. It must be submitted on an online platform . This platform will open from September 19, 2022 and closed on December 9, 2022, 5 p.m. (Paris time).
The form and the scientific dossier must be submitted in French .
Content of the scientific file
- The research project (between 10,000 and 20,000 characters maximum) must present the problematized research theme and the theoretical and methodological framework, precisely indicate the activities and stages to be carried out during his stay, and include a timetable
- A signed motivation letter, setting out the scientific and organizational reasons for the request for financial support and the logistical support expected from IFRA, and identifying the East African institutional partners of interest for the proper conduct of the research
- A CV of maximum 2 pages accompanied by a list of publications
- A letter from the director of the laboratory / research center with which the candidate is associated in France
