Yanis Mokri – PhD 2018-19

Yanis Mokri is a PhD student in archaeology conducting research in the Tana Delta (Kenya). Originally from Paris (France), he studies at Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne University and is affiliated with the Department of Archaeology at the National Museums of Kenya (NMK). His work is part of the international research program WIODER on the deltas of the East African coast.
The PhD research is aimed to enrich the archaeological map of the Tana Delta and to put forward the links between this area and the coastal Swahili cities during the last two millennia. Moreover, this research tries to enhance our understanding of the relationship between humans and environment, interrogating how the past inhabitants contributed to transforming the delta’s landscape.
His research is conducted in partnership with Peter Ng’ang’a, a Kenyan PhD student from the NMK working on the palynology/sedimentology aspects.
