Between Survival and Collapse: Liberalisation, sectoral upgrading, and the Political Economy of Coffee Cooperatives in Kenya and Uganda.

IFRA-Nairobi is excited to invite you to an upcoming seminar featuring Michael Mugisha, Ph.D. candidate at the London School of Economics. Mugisha will lead a dynamic discussion on the resilience of rural cooperatives in Africa. Drawing on comparisons between Uganda’s and Kenya’s coffee sectors, he will argue that Kenya’s cooperative system has driven sectoral upgrades, enabling better value capture and integration into global markets. The contrast shows how cooperatives can reform, and empower rural populations to upgrade production and influence beneficial regulations.
