IFRA Seminar – Qeerroo: Making a Young Oromo Political Generation
On 10 February 2026, Getaneh Wudeneh Chemeda gave an insightful talk on the Qeerroo movement and its impact on Ethiopian politics over the years.
His analysis of the differences between the old and new generations was particularly interesting. The older generation viewed survival as success, whereas the younger generation viewed survival without dignity as failure. This, of course, fueled protests, name changes, cultural revivals and the revival of Oromo Solidarity Association in Ethiopia.
We would like to thank the discussants Nicodemus Minde and Dr. Kenneth S. Ombongi, OGW, and all attendees for making this event a success!
