FamilEA Call for Research Grants
IFRA-Nairobi and The FamilEA team invite applications for research grants (ranging from 400 to 1,200 euros) aimed to support Masters, PhD and postdoc students who conduct research in the social sciences and humanities in Kenya and Uganda. Project FamilEA deals with the dynamics of family transformation in East Africa, with special focus on Uganda and Kenya, in an interdisciplinary perspective. It encompasses the study of kin networks, contacts and exchanges across places; Conjugal, parent-child, and more globally intra and inter-generational relationships; family structure, family making and vulnerability; family support and policies. Any aspect of these aspects are of interest to the project and eligible for funding.
A working paper / journal article presenting the research results is expected by the end of November 2026.
There is no condition of nationality. Applications can be submitted in English or French and include the following documents:
- A cover letter (in PDF) of about 2 pages including a summary of the project in 15-20 lines and explaining your profile, short profile and contact of the master or PhD supervisor(s); why you need financial support, and if you already have support from other institutions and for how much
- A detailed curriculum vitae (in PDF), including relevant academic achievements and publications
- A research project proposal (in PDF) of maximum 2 pages that includes information about the context, research questions, methodology that will be used and details about the research planning.
